Does Pro-StatŪ Profile need to be mixed?
No. Pro-StatŪ Profile is in liquid form and ready to use. Each 30 mL (one ounce) dose contains 10 grams of hydrolyzed protein and 101 k/cal making it very easy for patient consumption.
What is the difference between Pro-StatŪ Profile and other supplements?
Pro-StatŪ Profile liquid protein formula is enzyme- hydrolyzed protein fortified with L-tryptophan. Per serving, Pro-StatŪ Profile has 10 grams of protein and 101 k/cal per 30 ml (one ounce). Pro-Stat Profile provides the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended Essential Amino Acids profile and is an excellent source of high nitrogen, Conditionally Essential and Non-Essential Amino Acids. Can diabetics use Pro-StatŪ Profile?
Pro-StatŪ Profile contains fructose, a low glycemic sweetener acceptable for diabetics. Diabetic patients should however, continue their regular, individualized blood glucose monitoring schedule under the supervision of their doctor. For those patients following a CHO restricted diet, a serving of Pro-StatŪ has less carbohydrate content than a serving of juice.
How is Pro-StatŪ Profile administered?
a. Serve as a nutritional supplement alone.
b. Stir into nutritional supplements and shakes.
c. Stir into soft foods or beverages.
d. Use feeding tube.
For those facilities wanting to use as a food fortifier, Pro-Stat Profile nicely mixes with many foods and beverages without clumping or decreasing the food's palatability.
Is Pro-StatŪ Profile eligible for Medicare Part B reimbursement?
Pro-StatŪ has been assigned a Medicare billing code: B4155 Enteral formulae; category V: modular components, administered through an enteral feeding tube, 100 calories = 1 unit. If the product is administered orally, the "BO" modifier (Orally administered nutrition, not by feeding tube) is to be used with the HCPCS code B4155. This assignment of a code does not imply or guarantee claim reimbursement or coverage. However, the application for reimbursement is easily calculated as Pro-StatŪ Profile has 3030 kcal per bottle (887 ml) that would reimburse if eligible as 30 billing units.
Is Pro-StatŪ Profile eligible for reimbursement by Medicaid?
It varies by state. On an outpatient basis, hemodialysis and other patients with prescriptions through pharmacies may be eligible.

Are there any dyes used in Pro-StatŪ Profile?
There are no dyes used in Pro-StatŪ AWC. The color is naturally occurring. Any added dyes would have to be included in the ingredient listing.
Why is tryptophan added to the Pro-StatŪ Profile formula?
Tryptophan is added to Pro-StatŪ Profile because this product is a collagen based product. Collagen is missing one essential amino acid: tryptophan. The addition of tryptophan to Pro-Stat makes it a complete protein. So essentially, the body can utilize the amino acids where it needs them: for wound healing, growth and maintenance of muscle or bone, hormones, antibodies, etc. Adults need approximately 3.5 mg/kg/day of tryptophan or approximately 0.2 grams/day. Pro-Stat would provide this in about 3 servings per day, so it is not exceeding the RDA.
Is Pro-StatŪ Profile a high quality protein?
When assessing protein quality of foods, a method called Protein Efficiency Ratio (PER) has been applied since 1919. It is used in the US and Canada as the basis for regulations regarding food labeling and for the protein RDA. Eggs, milk and cheese, meat and fish, peanut butter and refined wheat have the highest true digestibility according to the RDA, 1989.
Net protein utilization (NPU) is the ratio of amino acids converted to protein to the ratio of amino acids supplied. It is calculated by determining dietary protein intake and measuring nitrogen excretion.
Values range from 1 to 0 (1 indicating 100% utilization of dietary nitrogen as protein, 0 indicating none of the nitrogen supplied was converted to protein). Eggs and milk equal 1 NPU.
When comparing 100 grams of protein of Pro-Stat to 100 grams of protein of whole egg protein, Pro-Stat exceeds the essential amino acid content of whole eggs (which have a high PER and NPU). It also exceeds the adult requirement for amino acids by about four times (per 100 grams protein).
Pro-Stat provides the Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommended Essential Amino Acids profile and is an excellent source of high nitrogen, Conditionally Essential and Non-Essential Amino Acids. Because it is broken down into poly peptides and amino acids, it is easy for ill persons to digest. It is easy to deliver due to its concentrated nutrients in a small volume (Pro-Stat Profile has 10 grams of protein and 101 k/cal in 30 ml.
In addition, arginine, glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline contained in the product are high nitrogen producers and have been shown to optimize wound healing and help preserve lean body mass.
Does Pro-StatŪ Profile contain purines?
Pro-StatŪ Profile has no purine content. Patients with gout must restrict their intake of purines. Gout, a form of arthritis that is characterized by sudden, severe attacks of pain, redness and tenderness in joints is caused by a high level of uric acid. Uric acid is a waste product formed from the breakdown of purines, substances which are found naturally in the body as well as in certain foods. Smaller amounts of purines are found in all meats, fish and poultry. When the kidneys cannot remove high levels of uric acid, then gout sufferers must restrict their intake of foods containing elevated levels of purines. The collagen is bovine in nature and has naturally occurring small amounts of purines. The production process removes all purines to produce a pharmaceutically elegant material.
